Hi! I’m Blumie Abend, founder and designer at Alcove Interiors by Blumie. I grew up in London, England and lived there until I married my husband, an LA native. We moved to California in 2014 and have called Los Angeles our home ever since.
 
Alcove Interiors began exactly five years ago, when we decided to renovate the very first home we purchased, on a little cul-de-sac called Alcove Avenue. At the time, I was a preschool teacher and dabbled in party planning, and that was as far as my creativity got. When we pulled the trigger on our renovation project, I met with two designers and ultimately did not hire either one of them.
II decided to do it myself.
II had no prior interior design experience but had spent hours on Pinterest and had always loved decorating my home. I decided I was up for the challenge.
 
The rest, as they say, is history. I absolutely fell in love with designing my home. Before it was even done,  I realized I could very well see this as my full time career.
 
Five years later, I can say with full confidence that this is a field I love; I feel tremendous fulfillment and contentment in my work and have been blessed to see so much growth and expansion over the years. Designing homes and buildings that bring calm, warmth and peace to others is a passion that only grows as I do it. Going on these journeys with my clients, watching them stepinto their new spaces, seeing the wonder in their eyes and the delight on their faces is something I will never tire of.
I'm so excited to see what projects are still in store for me. Each one of my clients challenges me to expand my capabilities in new and wonderful ways and I hope you, dear reader, will be the next one I embark on this journey with.
